The Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM) launched its Home Sweet Home appliance donation program last week with the delivery of full suites of kitchen appliances to two families rebuilding homes damaged by hurricanes Katrina and Rita in the greater New Orleans area. The kitchens included full-size refrigerators, electric ranges, dishwashers, microwave ovens, ventilation hoods, and in-sink disposers.
In addition, hundreds of floor care and portable appliances were distributed to caseworkers on behalf of their clients who are rebuilding homes in the area.
Home Sweet Home was established by AHAM in conjunction with charitable partner Gifts in Kind International. It aims to equip at least 40 greater New Orleans-area families who are rebuilding their hurricane-damaged homes with full suites of home appliances.
"Many AHAM members have generously contributed to helping the New Orleans area recover and rebuild from the hurricanes in 2005," noted AHAM President Joseph M. McGuire. "However, Home Sweet Home is a unique program for members to work collectively through the association to help families in the New Orleans area rebuild their homes."
AHAM will recognize Home Sweet Home program contributors at the AHAM Annual Member Meeting, April 15-16, 2007 in Washington, DC.
