GAMA has retained Richard Topping as a consultant to address issues related to ongoing U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) energy efficiency rulemaking.

In a message to members in the GAMA Reports newsletter, GAMA Chairman Bill Rafferty said that GAMA’s Executive Committee and President Jack Klimp recognized the need for the association to have one person dedicated entirely to addressing DOE rulemaking and to assure that the association remained effective dealing with ongoing rulemaking issues. "That person would need to have a rare combination of technical expertise along with a great deal of experience in dealing with regulatory agencies such as DOE," Rafferty said.

Richard Topping is highly regarded in the appliance industry as an expert in a number of fields. He worked in the Arthur D. Little consultancy and spent many years with an ADL successor business, TIAX, LLC, as a Director of Appliance Research. At TIAX, Topping dealt extensively with DOE and other regulatory agencies. He left TIAX in 2006 to form RFTopping Consultants, LLC (www.rftopping.com).

Topping also served for many years as a regular columnist in APPLIANCE magazine's APPLIANCE Engineer section and still contributes editorials occasionally to APPLIANCE.

GAMA, An Association of Appliance and Equipment Manufacturers, is based in Arlington, Virginia, U.S. and was long known as the Gas Appliance Manufacturers Association. The scope of the association expanded to now encompass oil-fired and electric equipment.
