Department store retail chain Kohl's Corporation (Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, U.S.) made its debut appearance in the No. 5 spot on the latest U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) list of Top 10 Retail Partners in the Green Power Partnership.

The retail chain's appearance on the list recognizes its voluntary purchase of more than 80 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of green power, representing eight percent of its annual electricity usage. The EPA also recognized the retailer as one of the nation's Top 25 Green Power Purchasers and among the largest green power purchasers in the Fortune 500.

Green power includes electricity that is partially or entirely generated from clean resources, such as solar, wind, geothermal, biogas, biomass, and low-impact hydro. Green power is considered cleaner than conventional sources of electricity and has lower emissions of carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas linked to global climate change. Green power purchases accelerate the development of new renewable energy capacity nationwide.
