The European Vending Association today announced and update to the initial version of its Energy Measurement Protocol.

“The aim of the measurement protocol is to allow vending operators and end users to compare vending machines on energy consumption, and therefore this new version of the EMP also includes a method to measure the effect of mentioned energy saving features," said Gerald Lodder, an EVA technical committee member and technical manager for Autobar Holland, a vending service supplier. "The second reason for this update is the inclusion of cooling devices such as carbonator units and water chiller devices that are incorporated in combined hot and cold drinks machines."

"The vending industry is highly sophisticated and with this product, the EVA contributes to more energy-efficient operations, and thus lower costs," added EVA Director General Catherine Piana. "A pan-European, widely endorsed protocol for energy measurement adds credibility to our industry. This also helps our industry score points compared to less environmentally-conscious distributive channels.”

EVA says using the standard gives and objective and comparable measure of the energy consumption. The EVA says the method is uniform and objective, so fair competition is stimulated. The standard is voluntary.
