Carrier Corp. will sponsor the NextGen Home for a second year to showcase its heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems at the 2007 International Builder's Show (IBS).
Featured technologies include the Edge thermostat, launching in late spring 2007 and shown for the fist time at IBS. The line is said to let consumers integrate their personal style into everyday products. Interchangeable faceplates help match home furnishings. The patented EXP (Edge Xpansion Port) card lets the user program the thermostat from a computer or control it directly with a three-button (Home, Away, Sleep) option.
Also featured is the Infinity Hybrid Heat system, designed to be a fuel-saving alternative to traditional heating and cooling. I combines an Infinity 96 furnace with an Infinity 19 Series electric heat pump rather than an air-conditioner. Carrier said that, unlike traditional dual-fuel systems, this system is considered a "smart" system - depending on the outdoor temperature, it switches automatically from one fuel source to another to maximize efficiency.
