Japan-based appliance and consumer electronics maker Sanyo Electric Co. will reorganize its appliance manufacturing and sales operations, news agency AFX said. The move may result in a loss of 500 to 1,000 jobs, according to a Nihon Keizai Shimbun report.

According to the report, the company is focusing on three of its operations – TVs, semiconductors and white goods, including air conditioners and washers.

The paper said Sanyo will continue making its high-end washers at its plant in Otsu, Shiga Prefecture, Japan, but will move production of its mass-produced washers to subsidiaries in China and Southeast Asia.
