Japan-based appliance and consumer electronics maker Sanyo Electric Co. will reorganize its appliance manufacturing and sales operations, news agency AFX said. The move may result in a loss of 500 to 1,000 jobs, according to a Nihon Keizai Shimbun report.
According to the report, the company is focusing on three of its operations ‚Äď TVs, semiconductors and white goods, including air conditioners and washers.
The paper said Sanyo will continue making its high-end washers at its plant in Otsu, Shiga Prefecture, Japan, but will move production of its mass-produced washers to subsidiaries in China and Southeast Asia.
