Sony Electronics introduced the VAIO(R) UX Micro PC, designed to place full-size computer performance in a pocket-sized device.

Weighing just over 1 pound, Sony said the new PC has a Microsoft(R) XP Professional operating system and an Intel(R) Core(TM) Solo Ultra Low Voltage CPU for fast processing and long battery life.

The UX model also features a 4.5-inch wide SVGA screen with XBRITE(TM) technology for viewing that slides up to expose an integrated keyboard. According to Sony, this allows users to access familiar applications easily in the same way they would on a full-sized computer.

It comes equipped with a stylus and a touch launcher for quick access to functions like Internet access and e-mail.

The UX model incorporates two built-in cameras -- one in front for VoIP communication for on-the-go video conferencing and another located on the back for taking photos. An integrated biometrics fingerprint sensor means do not have to remember passwords. A docking station with three 2.0 USB ports, Ethernet, VGA, iLink(R) IEEE-1394 interface and an AV output comes with the unit.

The new computer incorporates Sony's SmartWi(TM) technology that enables wireless WWAN, LAN and Bluetooth® technology. WLAN is also available for Wi-Fi connections at home or office; Bluetooth ® technology for peripherals; or WWAN for access to Cingular's EDGE network.

The VAIO UX Micro PC will be available in July 2006 for about U.S. $1,800.
