Samsung HDTVs Set Sail on Royal Caribbean Cruise Line May 15, 2006

Consumer electronics and appliance maker Samsung Electronics was selected by Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines to supply LCD TVs for the line’s newest and largest ship, Freedom of the Seas. The TVs will be in all 1,800 staterooms throughout the ship.

"We are honored to be a part of helping Royal Caribbean to realize its goal to build the most technologically-advanced cruise ship with the launch of Freedom of the Seas.” said DJ Oh, president and CEO, Samsung Electronics America, Inc.

Guests on the Freedom of the Seas cruise ship will enjoy Samsung’s 23-inch LN-R238WH and 32-inch LN-R328WH LCD TVs. The flat-panel TVs feature Samsung’s proprietary Patterned Vertical Alignment (PVA) screen technology, a 5000:1 contrast, and Samsung’s Digital Natural Image engine (DNIe™), which is said to optimize motion, contrast color and detail for image clarity and picture resolution.

In addition to providing LCD TV’s to the Freedom of the Seas and the next generation fleet, the agreement includes outfitting other Royal Caribbean’s ships as they are renovated.
