Toshiba Corporation (Tokyo) will move into the growing home appliance market in India. The introductions will include washing machines, refrigerators and microwave ovens. Toshiba also plans to launch floor care and electric housewares appliances. The first retail shipments will go to the city of Mumbai, then will expand throughout the country.
Toshiba has been in India since 1985 and incorporated Toshiba India Private Limited (TIPL), a wholly owned subsidiary, in 2001. Currently, TIPL markets office automation products, PCs, TVs, retail systems such as barcode readers, medical devices, air-conditioners, semiconductors, and industrial power systems in India.
