RadioShack Corporation and WiLife Inc. announced the availability of WiLife’s LukWerks(TM) Digital Video Surveillance Camera System at approximately 2,500 RadioShack stores nationwide and online. This makes RadioShack the first retailer to offer this unique new line of products for home and small business owners.

"Surveillance systems allowing people to remotely monitor the security of their homes or businesses, families and even pets are of growing interest across the country," said Jim Hamilton, executive vice president of merchandising and marketing for RadioShack. "LukWerks offers an innovative solution to people who want affordable and flexible do-it-yourself surveillance options. Its simple installation, powerful capabilities, attractive, non-intrusive design and reasonable cost combine to make LukWerks a compelling alternative to complicated and inflexible professionally installed surveillance systems that often cost thousands of dollars. Now people can remotely observe and record what's happening in real time from an Internet connection or from mobile devices, including Windows Mobile phones and pocket PCs." All WiLife customers receive this capability for free.

According to Andrew Hartsfield, CEO of WiLife, LukWerks breaks new ground in the security industry by eliminating the need for coaxial cable runs or purchasing and configuring a wireless network to install a surveillance system. Instead, users simply plug LukWerks' cameras into electrical outlets. Images are securely transmitted from up to six cameras over the existing electrical wiring back to the user’s personal computer. This is made possible through the power of HomePlug(TM) powerline technology, which creates a powerful and secure video network over the existing electrical wires and eliminates the need for drilling holes and running new cables.

LukWerks consists of video surveillance cameras, powerful PC software for displaying, recording and retrieving video, and seamless remote viewing capabilities for accessing surveillance video over the Internet. LukWerks' cameras can be mounted on a desktop, wall or ceiling, or even on the inside of a window (with the included suction cup), which protects them from the danger of vandalism, theft and elements. Their design makes it possible to point the camera facing outside the window or inside the room. Werks PC Software forms the core of the LukWerks system. This turns the PC into a user-friendly yet powerful command center for viewing and recording video and managing the system, while allowing consumers to continue using the PC. With Werks, users can view full-motion video from up to six cameras simultaneously, while recording any motion-based or scheduled events. In addition, Werks provides user-definable e-mail and cell phone alerts to notify users when motion has happened within a camera's view.
