Emerson Climate Technologies, a business of Emerson (NYSE: EMR), announced that its Retail Services unit has been awarded a contract expansion to provide energy management services for 209 additional supermarkets owned by the Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company. Altogether, Emerson will be serving 360 A&P-owned stores.
Emerson technicians will perform their E-Commissioning? service ? a comprehensive top-to-bottom audit of energy usage and tune-up of each store's refrigeration, heating, air conditioning, and lighting systems. An earlier Emerson E-Commissioning assignment for A&P delivered energy consumption savings totaling nearly 10 percent across 150 stores. This latest phase of the project will be completed by late August. Emerson will also provide its remote monitoring service for each location under a multi-year contract. Display case temperatures and related electrical systems will be monitored around-the-clock from the Emerson's Retail Services command center in Atlanta, to assure equipment is running properly, track energy usage, and minimize food product loss. Supermarkets are among the country's most energy-intensive types of commercial buildings, with refrigeration accounting for more than half of a supermarket's energy bill.
