Appliances are becoming more affordable in Vietnam, thanks to lower prices brought about by lower tariffs. VietNamNet Bridge and NLD report that prices for appliances from Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries are more competitive thanks to the ASEAN Free Trade Agreement (AFTA).

AFTA provided that tariffs on all electrical and electronic appliances in ASEAN countries be 5 percent or less starting in 2006. The result is said to be more appliances, priced more competitively, and NLD reports that new brand names are appearing in Vietnam as well.
