Europe's New Walkman Recharges In 3 Minutes Apr 5, 2006

Sony Europe (Berlin) today released its latest Walkman(R) digital music player for the European market with a 3-minute charge time, making it one of the fastest charge times on the market.

“With Sony’s pioneering quick-charge technology, music lovers can charge their WALKMAN® for 3 hours continuous playback in the time it takes to play just one track," said Sony Europe Vice President Jeffry Van Ede.

The Walkman products also offer 28 hours of music playback when using the ATRAC3 audio format and a further 27 hours with MP3 audio format, based on Lithium-ion rechargeable batteries. The player has built-in flash memory in capacities of 512 MB, 1 GB and 2 GB. The player is compatible with unsecured WMA files as well as ATRAC and MP3 and can download files via USB. The player has SonicStage 3.4 software for music management.

Sony’s ATRAC compression technology is designed to give the player the ability to store up to 90 CDs on the 2 GB model, 45 CDs on the 1 GB model and 22 CDs on the 512 MB at 48 kbps. An FM tuner is optionally available on the 1 GB and 512 MB players. The slim design is about 79 mm and it weighs approximately 25 g. Availability across Europe is planned for the end of April 2006.
