Sharp, Teco Settle TV-Panel Patent Dispute Mar 22, 2006

Teco Electric & Machinery Co., a home appliance maker from Taiwan, announced that its Japanese unit settled a patent dispute brought against it by Sharp Corp. of Japan. Terms of the settlement were not disclosed. Teco said that it expects to help sell more LCD TVs in Japan.

In June 2004, Sharp sued the Japese unit of Teco claiming that the products from AU Optronics Corp. infringed on its panel-manufacturing technology, which Sankyo denied. Sharp hoped to suspend the importation and sales of the 20-inch TVs using LCD panels produced by Taiwanese panel maker AUO, according to Nihon Keizai Shimbun business daily.

Teco's Senior Vice President George Lien said that the company was pleased that both sides could resolve the issue, according to Business Week Online.
