A top-fired burner and blower combination is employed in the design of the Vertex 100 residential gas-condensing water heater for highly effective combustion. It utilizes power-direct-venting and operates at 96% thermal efficiency. A sealed combustion system draws air in and vents air out through sealed vents. Advanced diagnostic capabilities includes a performance history recording function and the unit has a backlit LCD display. It has standard electrical/plumbing requirements, a footprint similar to conventional models, and uses the same electrical, water, and gas connections as a standard power-direct-vent model. It uses inexpensive PVC pipe for venting.
