October 2008
 Printable format
 Email this Article

Orbital forming uses a peen tool on a rotating spindle to move material in the workpiece to achieve the desired final form. The process can be used to crown, flare, swag, peen, roll, curl, broach, seal, retain, and crimp material and it allows control of final form and clamp force with a high degree of repeatability. The supplier’s catalog describes orbital riveters, rollforming, modular power heads, and orbital heads, and multiform options.
