New long-glass-fiber acetal copolymers (POM) were developed to achieve better performance than standard reinforced thermoplastic polymers in structural applications. The Hostaform materials were developed for high-loading gears, industrial applications, and appliances. The long-glass-fiber POM performance advantages include superior mechanical performance (impact, creep, and stiffness), resistance to higher temperatures than standard olefin-based long-fiber products, inherent lubricity and wear resistance, resistance to fuels and chemicals, and typically lower moisture absorption compared with standard polyamides.
