Evaporator Fan Motors for Commercial Refrigeration

Built to facilitate a smooth transition from ac to electronically commutated motors (ECMs) in existing equipment, the ICE 59 motor is said to offer up to 65% greater efficiency than a shaded-pole motor, and up to 40% greater efficiency than a PSC motor. The 1⁄15 hp motor was designed specifically for evaporator-fan use in walk-in coolers and freezers, and can serve as a form-fitting, drop-in replacement for a typical 3.3-in. motor. When retrofitting shaded-pole motors, according to the manufacturer, an ECM can have a payback in as little as six months of its 10-year expected lifespan. The ICE 59 can also improve whole-system performance by monitoring changes in the refrigerator environment and adjusting accordingly to deliver the programmed fan speed. All electronic motor controls in the ICE 59 are surrounded by waterproof potting material, which protects all sensitive parts of the motor. It features the BlaKBox Diagnostics, a built-in data recorder that helps to improve equipment features and performance, and the GE ECM Toolbox software, which allows system designers to create, test, and verify motor programming quickly and easily in a Windows-based, real-time, dynamic environment. The product has won UL and CSA recognition and is fully compliant with the RoHS Directive.
