Resins for Easy Color Mixing

A resin supplier launched a color program that aims at enhancing color appearance, flexibility, and consistency. Using the four base Lustran SAN (styrene-acrylonitrile) colors of red, blue, yellow, and green, customers can create different color hues and degrees of transparency by blending the colored resins together in various proportions. The mixture is then molded directly into the finished product. The intensity of the color is lessened by adding the Lustran SAN 31 natural product or the SAN 31-552160 product into the blend. At no point in the process does the SAN resin undergo compounding, a process that degrades and yellows SAN resin. The result is a clearer and brighter product. FDA is currently evaluating the combinations of colorants and Lustran SAN for repeated use in food-related applications such as kitchenware. Approval is expected in the near term.
