A high-performing thermoplastic film produced from the proprietary PEEK polymer can provide in a flexible format all of the properties of PEEK, including high dimensional stability, good mechanical properties, and a maximum continuous use temperature of up to 220°C (428°F). Even exposure to steam at 200°C (392°F) for 2000 hours and pressure of 1.4 MPa did not reveal significant changes to the mechanical properties of APTIV films. The films are available with thicknesses from 6 to 750 µm. A medical device manufacturer in the urology market, Dornier MedTech, has selected the films for the marking labels on reusable light conductors in its solid-state lasers. The labels indicate the remaining number of reuse cycles of the reusable light conductors in the laser equipment and are therefore a critical component. The APTIV film was selected for its high resistance to steam sterilization and to aggressive disinfecting agents used in laser surgery environments. The labels can be readily printed on using laser marking as well as a number of other conventional printing techniques. Victrex, www.victrex.com
