Antimicrobial Masterbatches

The latest CESA® antimicrobial additive masterbatches can slow the growth of bacteria on the surface of plastic components used in appliance applications. Incorporating a silver-based antimicrobial additive, these masterbatches inhibit the development of fungi and bacteria and help reduce odor and discoloration that can occur when micro-organism propagate on the surface of plastic articles. Among applications commonly affected are refrigerator gaskets and liners, food bins and water and ice-dispenser parts; washing-machine trim rings and tub parts; hot-tub and spa components; water-cooler and ice-machine parts; commercial and household air conditioners; and central-vacuum canisters. However, virtually any plastic product can become a host for bacteria that cause odor and surface discoloration, and can eventually degrade the plastic. The active ingredient releases silver ions, which inhibit the ability of bacteria and fungi to propagate. Clariant Masterbatches Division
