Proprietary Tufcote® acoustical absorbing foams are said to reduce noise levels within enclosed spaces—such as in garbage disposer models that needed to be produced in extra-quiet versions for international markets. The urethane foams are available in three market-specific formulations and a variety of protective facings, in thicknesses from 0.25 to 2 inches. The H-Series SM acoustical foam has been engineered for use in noise control applications that may include exposure to high levels of radiant heat and meets the UL 94 HF-1 flammability standard. The sound absorption insulation is faced with an aluminized polyester film that reflects radiant heat. The facing also protects the foam from soil and fluids.
To manufacture the product, the company applies the polyester facing during a proprietary thin sheet casting process, which casts the foam to thickness in continuous sheets. The facing and foam fuse during processing, for a bond said to resist delamination, even at elevated temperatures. E-A-R Specialty Components, www.earsc.com
