Web-Based Defect Tracking Systems
June 2006

 Email this Article

The company’s Web-based defect tracking systems are said to allow for real-time data availability in the manufacturing process. Information is collected from work stations with defects or rejects scanned or keyed-in by operators, with data from unmanned process and functional test stations using both PC- and PLC-based systems and with accurate feedback from repair stations. The information is sent via the plant Ethernet network to a Microsoft SQL database server, where it is logged and available on the company’s intranet. Users can look at data as it is generated, create instant reports and track graphical trends. The software recognizes when the manufacturing process is trending to unacceptable ranges according to data and triggers immediate corrections by paging the appropriate personnel, resulting in lowered rejects, rework, scrap, and service calls.
