Intelligent Fasteners employ several components: software, embedded electronics, integrated sensors, shape-changing materials, and a fastening mechanism. Electronics and sensors are embedded into a fastening mechanism, controlled by software. When the mechanism receives a signal to fasten, an electric current stimulates the shape-changing materials to engage the other side of the fastener.
