The new Monogram® Walk-In Wine Vault™ from GE Consumer & Industrial (Louisville, KY, U.S.) is designed to be professionally installed in a consumer’s home for storing or displaying wines. A 3,000-BTU cooling system maintains the interior at 55°F (12.8°C) to keep the vault at the ideal humidity level for long-term wine storage. A self-calibrating temperature probe and electronic controls help ensure consistent temperature throughout the chamber.

Insulated panels with an R33 insulation factor and an airtight door seal help keep temperature and humidity constant. The door can be locked to keep the wine inventory secure. Motion detection lighting ensures that the lights turn off when the consumer leaves the vault.

GE developed an electronic inventory management system with a touch-screen monitor and printer. The system is designed for easy ongoing maintenance so the user can enter and remove bottles in seconds. The system includes bar code labeling functions to assist with locating wine and removing it from inventory. Drop-down menus allow the user to pre-load the database and classify each bottle entered into the system. Inventory protection helps manage hold time, peak time, and past-due drink time for each type of wine. A look-up feature allows the user to find bottles by country, type, and vintage.

Consumers can specify inventory racks for functionality and maximum capacity; they allow the vault to store almost 1,100 bottles. Display racks are designed for consumers who like to show off their collection. Display racks replace some inventory racks with an angled row for display and a tasting station in the back, and deliver a maximum capacity of about 975 bottles. Both rack options are made of redwood, and engraved metal plates label rack locations for inventory.
