The PIC16F59 is said to be the first baseline 8-bit PICĀ® microcontroller to be offered in 40- and 44-pin packages. The microcontroller is said to target cost-constrained applications that require additional input and output pins (I/O), such as the appliance market. The microcontrollers feature
2 K words of Flash program memory and low-power (100 nA) sleep current. Applications for the microcontroller include dishwashers, washing machines, clothes dryers, blenders, switch matrices, LED displays, and consumer electronics.
