Saniguardâ„¢ antimicrobial-coated products are said to inhibit the growth of bacteria, mold, and fungus. The inorganic antimicrobial-coated hardware and plumbing products can be designed for use on appliance handles, drawer assemblies, faucets, and more. Applied over metallic surfaces as a powder coating or impregnated into plastic resins, the antimicrobial coating is NSF-certified and is said to be safe for food contact areas. The silver ion material is activated by ambient moisture, where it then attaches itself to bacteria cells and inhibits their reproduction. According to the company, when the coating is properly maintained, it can last for the life of the product on which it is applied.
