According to the company, arc-fault circuit interrupters (AFCI) help prevent problems in home wiring, such as arcing and sparking, which are associated with more than 40,000 home fires each year. The new safety device is expected to provide enhanced protection from fires resulting from unsafe wiring conditions. The devices recognize characteristics unique to arcing and help prevent faults by de-energizing the circuit when an arc fault is detected. AFCO devices have been mandated by the National Electric code and UL for the cord sets on room air-conditioners, beginning August 2004. The company offers products ranging from 120 to 240 V and 15 to 30 A, SPT-3 and SJT wire types, and 18, 16, 14, 12, and 10 AWG wire gauges. Chau’s Electrical Co., Ltd.
