Small appliance maker Salton, Inc. announced it has launched the SweepEZE Vacuuming Dustbin. The SweepEZE is a vacuuming device that rests on the floor next to a wall. As a user sweeps dirt and debris into it, an infrared beam is said to detect debris and automatically initiate a timed vacuuming cycle.

The dustbin reportedly features a 600 W motor and can be used for tile, wood, vinyl, concrete, or any non-carpeted floor. It can also be used in a manual "kick-start" mode. Dirt is stored in an easy-to-empty canister.

Salton also plans to introduce new household models of the SweepEZE under the Westinghouse(TM) mark and models tailored for hair salons and workshops in early 2005. According to the company, the products are protected by issued and pending patents in the U.S. and international territories.

Salton, Inc. is also known for its George Foreman(R), Toastmaster(R), Melitta(R), Russell Hobbs(R), Farberware(R), Ingraham(R), and Stiffel(R) brands.
