The TE-7700 Series RF wireless room temperature sensing system from Johnson Controls, Inc. reportedly reduces installation costs and eliminates problems associated with installing hardwired systems in facilities with solid or temporary walls or decorative surfaces. The company says that the RF design improves application flexibility by providing an alternative to hardwired counterparts.

The result is said to be quick, economical, and low-maintenance installation and relocation. The TE-7700 works directly with the company's VMA1400 controllers. This RF system includes the TE-7710 series transmitter and the TE-7720 series receiver. Together, these components monitor the temperature set point and actual temperature of a zone and transmit the data to the receiver every 60 sec. The transmission intervals reportedly provide optimum HVAC control, with a 3-year battery life. The TE-7700 uses 900-MHz spread-spectrum technologies to prevent accidental and unauthorized interface.

Field-addressable DIP switches reportedly establish a unique, secure address between each transmitter and receiver. The company says that this one-to-one control approach reduces susceptibility to signal interface, and prevents a single point of failure in multiple zone applications. The receiver includes two LEDs that indicate adequate signal strength and bus communication.

A manual pushbutton on the transmitter provides occupancy override by notifying the receiver that the zone is occupied. To optimize comfort in larger zones, a single receiver can average the measured temperature of up to four transmitters, or select the highest or lowest measured temperature.
