The supplier says that Heat Recovery/Energy Recovery Ventilation (HRV/ERV) systems are growing in popularity as a means to control indoor air quality without incurring energy losses. Yet, says GE Industrial Systems, even today’s most advanced designs (used primarily to maintain an even inlet and outlet air exchange) do not meet increased needs for preventing growing health threats from moisture-spawned molds, carbon monoxide, and building materials, and off-gassing of oxygen-reducible contaminants.
As a result, the supplier is promoting a system that mates environmental sensors and its variable-speed GE ECM™ motors with an advanced HRV/ERV that reportedly can vary building inlet and outlet air pressure to create optimum indoor air quality over a wide range of building conditions. The system would employ two variable-speed GE electronically commutated motors to provide tightly static-pressure balance within a building envelope, and fan speed tracking control with calibrated internal algorithms to create the desired offsets between inlet and outlet fan pressures based on a variety of environmental inputs.
The system would also have an optional catalytic-based oxygen reducible chemical sensor to detect VOCs and most aerosol-borne compounds that may ultimately enter the bloodstream. By constantly monitoring and responding to all system elements, the company believes it can precisely and constantly pressurize a building.
