The unit makes use of an Ultrasonic Device (ultrasonic generating element) that removes food stains from dishes using a superfine mist, as well as an Ion Exchange System that makes hard and soft water from tap water using table salt. The combination is designed to result in powerful washing without the need for dishwasher detergent. It also prevents dried water spots from forming on glasses.
Everyday food stains can be washed away using the dishwasher's Ion Cycle, which requires no special dishwasher detergent. The cycles include:
Ultrasonic Water Application: The QW-A60 fills up its washing tank with water and generates a superfine mist using an ultrasonic generating element. The mist surrounds starch and grease on dishes for easy removal.
Hard Water Ion Washing: Prepared salt water is then put through the Ion Exchange System to make hard water containing an abundance of calcium ions (Ca2+) and magnesium ions (Mg2+). This water washes the dishes using a salting-in effect* to remove protein-based stains, which would otherwise become hardened and difficult to remove when using conventional heated tap water. (The salting-in effect is described as the effect of dissolving proteins through neutral salt ions such as calcium and magnesium ions. )
Soft Water Ion Rinsing: The Ion Exchange System removes calcium ions (Ca2+) and magnesium ions (Mg2+) from the tap water to create soft water. Rinsing with this soft water minimizes water spots, resulting in shiny glasses.
The Ion Course uses only about 126 yen (U.S. $1.01) worth of salt per month, so the running cost is less than one-fifth the cost of using dishwasher detergent at an average monthly cost of about 660 yen (U.S. $5.30).
Especially tough grease stains and cooking utensils can be run through using a powerful Ion Plus Detergent Course.
The QW-A60 Countertop Dishwasher is designed to have low noise, generating just 39 dB in Night Mode. It is designed to clean 40 items or about 6 place settings. The unit was introduced in Japan on September 25, 2002, at a suggested retail price of 88,000 yen (U.S. $707.18) and the company plans a monthly productions of 8,000 units.
