The Top 10 States for AI

Interest in artificial intelligence has continued to expand since ChatGPT exploded on the scene in December of 2022. Go to any technology trade show or conference, it’s the number one conversation. Whether people are decrying it or praising it, they’re talking it up and down. Enterprise software company, SAP, decided to dig in and see where AI is gaining purchase.

So SAP commissioned a study that identified the US states with the most interested in AI jobs. The study also took into consideration the willingness of businesses within these states to adopt AI technologies.

The study looked at Google search data for terms such as artificial intelligence careers, AI internship, and machine learning jobs to gauge public interest in AI-related careers. They then used data from The Business Trends and Outlook Survey, which surveys businesses in each state on their economic measures and expectations for future conditions, including AI usage, to determine how ready companies in each state are for AI adoption.

The study reveals a robust interest in AI across the US, with significant variations in how states and their businesses plan to embrace these technologies. The findings reveal the need for a strategic approach to AI education and implementation, ensuring that the workforce's interest in AI translates into meaningful adoption within the business sector, ultimately driving innovation and economic growth across diverse industries.

Of the ten states most interested in AI jobs, six have a high number of businesses planning to implement AI with machine learning, natural language processing, virtual agents, or voice recognition in their plans for the next six months.
