Heyco Products's Metallic Liquid-Tight Cord Grips.

Heyco Products, Inc. has introduced Metallic Liquid-Tight Cord Grips, an expanded selection of heavy-duty, corrosion-resistant, liquid-tight cord grips with NPT, Metric, or PG threads. The cord grips have a smooth design with rounded interior edges, which is said to easily insert cords and cables ranging from 0.079- to more than 2-in in diameter.

A thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) inner seal ensures a liquid-tight sealing around all cables and wires in working temperatures from -40°C to 100°C. The Ingress Protection Class (IP Rating) 68 also helps to provide a tight seal. Not only do these grips provide a seal around an electrical entry, but they are also said to offer protection from outdoor elements, inadvertent abuse, and rough use. According to Victor Wittmann, vice president of Sales and Marketing, “The nickel-plated brass construction of this particular family provides additional durability in rough usage.”

The cord grips can be used in commercial rotary floor cleaners, which operate around water and make abrupt contact with walls or other objects. According to Mr. Wittmann, this particular cord grip family can protect the power supply at the point of entry in a secure and durable manner.

“Similarly, a commercial-grade mixer or cooker in an application where cleaning requires hose down might be a perfect opportunity to use a Heyco Nickel Plated Brass Cord Grip to provide strain relief and a liquid-tight seal at a point of electrical power supply entry,” he tells APPLIANCE. Other possible applications include medical equipment, commercial kitchen appliances, outdoor power equipment, and outdoor HVAC equipment.

Mr. Wittmann says one of the grips’ unique features is that they are available in a range of wire/cable diameters, hole sizes, and thread types, which are accommodated by the company’s standard range of products. “By compressing a TPE gland that surrounds the cord/cable, we achieve a range of cable diameters,” he explains. The range of cables suitable for each type of cord grip and the various threads available for mounting them can also help to simplify the production of the end product.

Mr. Wittmann adds that the appearance of the final product is improved through the use of the grips. “The clean ‘technical’ lines and obvious durability of these products will enhance the appearance of any appliance as a technically advanced and very durable product,” he notes. The grips can also help with cost savings by reducing the failures that occur within warranty and other associated repairs and replacements.

Other options for the UL- and CUL-compliant grips include stainless-steel body construction, high-temperature sealing gland materials, flat or multi-cable sealing glands, right-angle and bell-mouth body designs, and electro-magnetic shielding style metallic cord grips.
