Flat screen CTVs seem to be passé in India. Today, there is a growing preference for LCD, projection, and plasma TV among affluent homes in Indian metropolitan cities. |
These new high-tech products are in great demand as more home entertainment channels and options are available for Indian consumers. With direct-to-home (DTH) channels now available, it is perceived that CTVs that offer greater picture clarity are also going to be in great demand.
The increasing use of video compact disk (VCD) players and digital video disk (DVD) players has also given a boost to sales of high-end CTV models. Currently, projection TVs are priced at a little more than Rs 100,000 (approx. U.S. $ 2,271), which is 50-percent less expensive than the cost of plasma TVs.
LCD CTVs are the highest priced among the new age CTVs, and most of the top CTV brands have launched their models in this high-end CTV niche segment.
