JRAIA releases 2003 shipment statistics. |
The Japan Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Industry Association (JRAIA) announced that domestic shipments of room air-conditioners (RACs) in RY 2003 totaled 6,774,002 units, down 1.9 percent from RY 2002. Packaged air-conditioners (PACs) totaled 659,302 units, down 1.3 percent.
In the RAC segment, heat pump units accounted for 6,677,536 units, thus occupying a larger share - 98.6 percent of the total. In the PAC segment, the heat pump type accounted for 598,417 units, occupying 90.8 percent of the total. Although statistics announced by the JRAIA do not cover inverter-type PACs, about 40-50 percent of PACs up to 10 hp seem to have inverter control, according to trade estimates. Gas-engine heat pump (GHP) shipments totaled 41,523 units, up 1.7 percent over RY 2002.
Shipments of centrifugal chillers increased to 282 units, up 20 percent over RY 2002. Those of both positive displacement and absorption chillers remained about even with the previous year totals, numbering 8,600 units (down 0.7 percent) and 2,907 units, respectively. Shipments of ice-thermal-storage-aided PACs numbered 7,835 units, showing a sharp drop of 13 percent from RY 2002.
