India is increasingly becoming an outsourcing hub for a number of multinational companies. |
While Indian suppliers have been exporting components, particularly to the automobile industry, for some time, the recent trend is using the region to outsource finished consumer products.
Automobiles and consumer appliances are among the big-ticket items that are being exported. Take for instance, Whirlpool India, which has started supplying coffee grinders and other small appliances to Whirlpool globally. According to Raj Jain, managing director of Whirlpool India, this trend is an acknowledgement of the fact that India can produce consumer goods of good quality and at a low cost, just as China can.
