World's First Antimicrobial Switches May 2012

A unique line of antimicrobial switches launched was launched by the switch brand in partnership with BioCote Ltd, provider of evidence-based antimicrobial technology.

The switch brand's best-selling lines of standard and miniature rocker switches, push button switches, double pole splash resistant switches, and splash/dust covers will be manufactured with BioCote's silver ion technology during the molding process, to produce the world's first antimicrobial electronic components.

The antimicrobial line provides OEMs a distinctive new feature that offers a key point of end product differentiation and significantly enhances the benefits to the end user or the product.

Integrating the antimicrobial technology at the point of manufacture provides built-in antimicrobial protection for the life span of the component part. It reduces microbes, including bacteria, mold, and fungi by up to 99.9%.

"Arcolectric's switches are already used for a wide variety of 'high traffic' consumer and industrial devices. Our partnership with BioCote ensures the surfaces of Arcolectric switches will help prevent the spread of microbes including viruses, mold and bacteria," said Stuart Hutchings, marketing manager for the switch brand. Five of the switch brand's lines will use the antimicrobial technology at the manufacture stage, with other lines to follow:
* 1500 standard and 1300 high inrush rocker single pole switches
* 1550 standard rocker and 1350 high inrush double pole rocker switches
* 8500 and 8550 miniature rocker switches
* 8300 push button switches
* 6050 double pole and twin splash resistant switches
* Transparent splash/dust proof covers
