A new refined zinc phosphate for carbon steel and DOM tubing that reduces sludge production and cuts manufacturing costs is available from Henkel Surface Technologies.

Bonderite® 196XT is a single package, Nitrate/Nitrite process that can reportedly reduce sludge production by up to 30 percent and chemical usage by up to 20 percent. The new refined zinc phosphate shows a 10-20 percent reduction in manufacturing costs compared to conventional zinc phosphate processes, according to the supplier.

The process is an internally-accelerated polycrystalline zinc phosphate that is formulated to increase coating efficiency and help cut sludge production. It is designed for dip application on tubing prior to use of either reactive or non-reactive type lubricants.
