B&K Precision Corporation added the Model 885 Synthesized In-Circuit LCR/ESR meter to its growing line of test and measurement products. The new lightweight, battery-powered, hand-held unit can be used to test components at frequencies up to 10 kHz.

“Our new Model 885 Synthesized In-Circuit meter is the first of its kind available today, and with the ability to test components at frequencies up to 10 kHz, it is the most accurate meter on the market,” says Victor Tolan, president and CEO of the supplier. “If you’re looking to ensure the performance of the circuit, our meter will get the job done quickly and economically.”

Higher frequency circuits are being used every day to take advantage of the size, performance, and lower power. The Equivalent Serial Resistance (ESR) in a capacitor is said to be the key element determining efficiency and performance; with the Model 885, the user can reportedly quickly check the ESR of a capacitor.

The hand-held meter offers a wide range of test frequencies. It has been designed for both component evaluation on the production line and fundamental impedance testing from bench-top applications. Utilizing the built-in test fixture, the user can reportedly easily test the lead components.

Surface mount components are usually tiny and have no wire leads, making them more difficult to test, according to the supplier. The included SMD test probe is said to enable users to conduct SMD component testing easily. An optional four-wire test clip reportedly provides a convenient connection to larger components and assemblies with the accuracy of four-wire testing.

The device offers a large variety of measurement parameters such as Z, L, C, DCR, ESR, D, Q, and Ø, and a wide range of test conditions including 100 Hz, 120 Hz, l kHz, 10 kHz, l Vrms, 0.25 Vrms, and 0.05 Vrms. It features d.c. resistance measurement, rechargeable battery/a.c. power, 0.5 percent basic accuracy, a large, easy-to-read dual LCD display, fully automatic/manual selection, and very quick response, says the supplier.

The synthesized in-circuit LCR/ECR meter comes with instruction manual, battery, SMD surface mount probe, and carrying case.
