DSM Engineering Plastics' new line of high-performance polypropylene compounds reportedly has up to 30-percent higher strength than traditional glass fiber-reinforced polypropylene compounds. Utilizing unique, advanced technology in resin, glass fibers, coupling chemistry, and compounding, the supplier has reportedly developed glass fiber-reinforced polypropylene materials that offer tremendous benefits and extend the envelope for polypropylene applications.
The new line of compounds is said to offer higher impact and tensile strength, better stiffness, and higher short-term heat resistance than homopolymer based grades with similar glass loadings. In comparisons with homopolymer grades, up to 30-percent improvement was noted in tensile strengths. These materials are reportedly positioned to better bridge the gap between traditional engineering plastics and polypropylene compounds.
